Siomai versus Siomai

In Manila, one of the hottest franchise is the steamed siomai food kiosk. The main rivals are Siomai House by Bernabest (see pic) and Master Siomai. Another player is Henlin which for many years was Numero Uno but I guess people SIOMAI HOUSE, RICHARDJOSEPHSIY may have grown tired and besides, Henlin siomai costs more than the offerings the former two which retail for P25 for 4-pieces of steamed siomai dimsum ((US$50 cents/order).

An order of siomai is the cheapest meal one can get in Manila to fill hungry stomachs on a budget.

Franchises go for about P250,000.00 (US$ 5,000) excluding improvements to the site where you want to locate like in the Mall). You could save a lot by trying to put-up your own brand but I would advice you think hard before going that route.

Manila's hungry stomachs tend to favor the famous brand for the same price. Between Siomai House and Master Siomai, I would say go for Siomai House if you can afford the franchise.

This is a pic taken at the MRT Ayala Station, one of the busiest, most costly commercial spaces in Manila. The place has a lot of MRT commuters who are Office workers or Call Center Agents and business stretches past 10pm every day.

As you will notice, the Master Siomai kiosk (yellow box) is closest to disembarking and riding MRT commuters being located a few steps from the MRT entrance/exit turnstiles and yet when I passed the station around 10pm. the Master Siomai is already closed while the Siomai House (red box) is still doing brisk business. Both siomai kiosks are just 8 steps away. GO FIGURE IT OUT.
