Ever Heard of GudSilog?

courtesy of GudSilog at the EDSA Carpark under the MRT Ayala Station
While checking out the stalls at the EDSA Carpark right under the MRT Ayala Station which has one of the heaviest foot traffic anywhere, I came across this food business called GudSilog.

According to a neighboring tenant, this GudSilog is open from 6am to 9pm and is doing so well.  Their prices ranges from P39 to P49.

Most of their customers are salesladies of  the nearby SM Department Store and SM Makati Supermarket as well as call center agents and other office workers either rushing to work or on the way home.

IFEX 2011: Finally, A Cure for Cancer.......... or not?

courtesy of Ocean Fresh and Caisip
I was so surprised by this ad that claims to be a "NATURAL CANCER CELL KILLER" and is "10,000 TIMES STRONGER THAN CHEMOTHERAPY".  If this is true, this Company has the potential to be the WORLD'S BIGGEST AND MOST PROFITABLE COMPANY IN THE WORLD!!!!!

courtesy of Ocean Fresh and Caisip
I believed the Company should be able to support its claim with the necessary clinical test results from highly-regarded laboratories as I think they could have a potential winner in their hands.

IFEX 2011: IS THIS COFFEE OR TEABAG? Make Sure Your Labels and Packaging are Clear.

courtesy of Phil Civet Coffee
I did a double-take when I was reading this Tarp Standee at the IFEX 2011 show at the SMX.  While the top portion says "CIVET COFFEE", the bottom portion says "1 TEA BAG CAN BE USED 3 TIMES".  While we know the intention of the marketer that the tea bag merely refers to the container where the coffee is placed, I think they could have used the words "1 COFFEE PACK CAN BE USED 3 TIMES" or "1 COFFEE SACHET CAN BE USED 3 TIMES".

IFEX 2011: CIVET COFFEE MANIA !!!! What's Civet Coffee?

courtesy of cordillera products
While walking the labyrinthine aisles of the International Food Expo or IFEX 2011 at the SMX, I noticed several booths offering Civet coffee (also called Coffee Alamid) .  From what I gathered during my TLRC Coffeeshop Management course, Civet coffee is coffee beans ingested by the Civet cat (or Musang in Filipino).  Apparently, the coffee beans remain intact even after having been pu-pu'd (excreted by the civet cat) and these coffee beans are then collected , cleaned, roasted and ground into coffee for our coffee-drinking.  Its supposed to have a kinda chocolatey taste.

courtesy of alamid cafe express
During the IFEX 2011, one booth quoted P1,500 per Half-kilo!!!!! A coffee shop in Makati was selling same coffee at P200 a small cup.

LOTTO UPDATE: PCSO 6/55 Jackpot Now at P249 Million

6/55 Lotto Game logo courtesy of the PCSO
There was no winner in last night's PCSO 6/55 draw.  The 6/55 Jackpot Amount is now at p249,671,970.00!!!!

The next draw will be on Saturday, May 21, 2011 and we can expect even longer lines.  As the Jackpot grows, the increase in the Jackpot amount goes up at an even faster rate, much like a snowball rolling down a long hill.

During the last 6/55 PCSO Lotto Game where the Jackpot amount hit P741 Million before it was won by a New York-based Balikbayan, there were some lotto outlets that were selling as much as P300,000 in just one day!!!

For those interested in going into the Lotto Outlet business, I offer a One-on-One Consultation on How to Set-up and Operate Your Own Lotto Outlet.  Topics will include Site Selection, The Proper Way to Apply with the PCSO, How Much to Set-up a Lotto Outlet, Actual Operations, How to Attract Lotto Players, Hiring The Right Lotto Operator and How to Protect Your Business from Fraud and many many more.  I will share with you my Actual Experiences as a Lotto Agent.  My fee is only P2,000 per head.

IFEX 2011: International Food Expo at the SMX

Braving the summer HEAT and the perennial traffic (snail pace is much too fast) on the way to the MOA area, I finally arrived at the SMX to see what was new at the International Food Expo or IFEX 2011.  I was lucky enough to find one parking slot just after the Parking Ticket booth.  I grabbed it right away feeling smug that I did not have to make endless loops around the SMX basement parking area.

Before entering the Exhibition Hall, there were some products feature along the Hallway wall which are vying for the Trend Awards/  Below are pics of only those products that caught my attention:

A number of the offerings under the Trend Awards, I noticed, originated from traditional food fare but with a healthy twist to it.  I was told the Wellness and Health Industry is going to be a big hit.  As people become ever conscious of their health and aware of the ever-spiralling cost of Medical Care, maybe these products are the way to go.  My only concern is that I also noticed that any product that is touted to be health always has to be TOO EXPENSIVE FOR MOST PEOPLE & taste not as good as the traditional item they want to replace and so, very few people buy them.

People love their breakfast Tocino esp with a Healthy Twist

Tuna CHORIZO with my precious sinangag

Can we convince Junior to give-up his Jollibee Chanp or McDo Big Mac for this?

Antonio Pueo is remembered bec of Spanish Chocolate in the New Year. Now they have Microwave Mug Cake.  Hmmmmmm something intriguing for merienda?
A Weight-Management Snack made of Flowers????

This estimate of the 6/55 PCSO Grand Lotto Jackpot amount came out in the Manila Bulletin May 14, 2011 issue

6/55 PCSO Grand Lotto  logo
The biggest sll-time Jackpot amount was P741 Million which was won by a Filipino balikbayan Engineer residing in New York, USA.  A Lotto outlet in Caloocan was reported to be selling up to P300,000 of lotto tickets in just one day!!! Imagine how much is the Lotto Agents income for that day. Wow!!!

IF THERE IS A FOODCART, WHAT THEN IS A COMBO CART???

Aside from Multi-concept Franchisors, I also noticed COMBO CARTS.  What are they?

Well, obviously, its a cart that may have 2 or even 3 food concepts in one!!!

Victory Franchise Inc (Fil-chi International) has a version wherein you could combine Squidballs (Balls Ng Bayan), Buy1Take1 Burger (called Twin Burger) and waffle dog ala Waffle Time (called Crazy Waffle) in one cart. Even the front facing of the foodcart shows 3 signages in One!!!

Below is the version of the COMBO CART by Filtrepreneur Franchise, another Multi-concept Franchisor:

They offer 2 versions of their Scramble cart:  a High-end costing P75,000 All-in (and acc to their flyer, "My God shall supply") and a low-end costing P29,000.

Of note in their flyer, they are the only franchisor that has Advertising Support (Radio, TV, Magazines) included in both Franchise packages.

PIFBEX AT WTC: Kebab BBQ Anyone??

courtesy of king kabab victory franchise  Another offering of the Multi-Concept company Victory Franchise Inc or Fil-Chi Entrepreneurs is King Kebab.

According to my Iranian Lotto customer, Kebab or Kabab is their version of our BBQ but much better (he says!).

Investment is expected to be higher as the cart itself is almost P80,000 as it is made of good quality materials.

PIFBEX AT WTC: Cheaper than Twistix. It's Patatas Twisters!!

Another trend that I noticed in past Food Franchise Expos including this one, the Phil Food and Beverage Expo, at the WTC is the emergence of more  Multi-Concept Franchisors offering Scramble, Twistix-type, Siomai and whatever is the latest trends in food franchises.

Examples of the Multi-concept Franchisors at the PIFBEX is Wynski Enterprises, Garnet Conceptualized Business Development and now, my feature, is by Victory Franchise Inc. (part of Fil-Chi Entrepreneurs, I think).

Not Twistix but Patatas Twister
Their version of Twistix is the Patatas Twister.  Their Franchise Package is P29,900 (vs more than P200,000 for Twistix) and they have no Royalty Fee nor Renewal charges.

Pot Dog Franchise Food Cart at WTC
One of the longer-living Franchises is Pot Dog.  They are mostly found in the malls.

Pot Dog products
Their menu can partly be found in Kiss, The King of Balls franchise as well as Paotsin.  As can be seen in the photos below, they have an extensive product line.

The Franchise Package is a big P450,000 and for which you get:

  4sqm Kiosk
  2 Upright Freezers
  2 Deep Fryers
  Rice Cooker
Exhaust Rangehood (important if you are indoors as in a Mall)
  Asstd Kitchenware and utensils
  Tables and cabinets
  Uniforms
  Initial inventory worth P20,000

I was told by the Pot Dog personnel, Rent in a mall can be as high as P80,000 and that some malls also charge a Percentage of Sales.   Because of the big investment, a Mall will be the preferred location to be able to generate enough sales to payback the investment.
