From Taxi Operator to Selling Ready-to-Earn Taxis for Sale

Recently, I had a customer who related to me his taxi business, which was his first business to begin with.

courtesy of silent-gardens and nine stars taxi  He started by purchasing 2 second-hand cars not knowing that in a year or two both cars would no longer be allowed by the LTFRB (Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board or the Phil government agency approving taxi franchises) as they would be too old to be allowed as taxis.

The next problem--- he did road test the cars (without really knowing much about cars)  and they seemed okay. After purchasing both cars, he had a mechanic look it over and of course, he had to spend some more money to get them into condition.

After enduring months waiting for the LTFRB to approve his franchise, he finally got it.

His next nightmare-- he hired seemingly decent (hehehe) taxi drivers who applied at his place.  Since he did not have a Human Resources Dept (or HR dept) to background check and give the requisite psychological tests to check for their sanity, he hired them on the spot naturally!!

The nightmare started almost immediately (as well as his sleepless nights) as the taxi drivers (thinking they were Michael Schumacher of the vaunted Ferrari Team) would get into accidents and also, the cars became friendly with the mechanic's repair shop.

He also failed to account that he had to be around when the drivers would change shift and to make sure he gets the Fare Boundary (his daily take) otherwise the driver would disappear with the day's sale.

One fine day, he decided to sell the taxis (don't know if at a loss) but sell he did!

But the GOOD NEWS is that my friend is still in the taxi business, but from a different side of the equation, so to speak and earning alright.

What did he do?  He decided to sell complete taxi units to taxi companies!! He would buy low-mileage 2008 taxis (which are still acceptable as taxis by the LTFRB) & buy also taxi franchises with at least 2 years to run before said franchises have to be renewed.

With his network of agents, there is a good supply of 2008/2009 Toyota Vios (Yaris in Europe) with about 20,000km or less mileage.  He then has a supplier of Taxi meters with printers ((Taiwan brand at P5000 to P8000) complete with Top Light etc.

When you buy my customer's taxis, they are ready-to-earn as they are already painted in Taxi scheme complete with approved LTFRB franchise, calibrated taxi meters with the required printer and top light.

Now, he can sleep better.

Marketing 101: Lucky Tiger Scratch It Card: Same Product But with a Changing Name?

courtesy of pacific online pcso
Scratch card Lucky Tiger similar to Go Banana, Golden Genie, Go for Gold and this month, Lucky Rabbit.

We have heard the phrase "If it Aint Broke, Why Change It?".

Pacific Online Systems, supplier of the Lucky Tiger Scratch It card, has a different take on that phrase.

You see, Pacific Online offers almost 14 kinds of Scratch It cards but a number of them are just variations of the same Game card wherein you find figures of the same peso amount, win that amount, to wit:

1.  Go Banana (same but has a multiplier to double or triple winnings)

   2.  Lucky Tiger (same but has bonus of a Gold Coin (win P200) or goldbar (win P1,000)

3.  Go For Gold  (same as Go Bananan)

4.  Golden Genie (same as Go Banana), and so on.

The Scratch It Card featuring the scheme of looking for 3 like amounts seems to be the most popular among lotto customers and what Pacific Online has done is to offer the same product packaged differently (different colors, card name).

URC's bestselling Piattos in different flavors & packaging
A good analogy is Piattos Potato chips which comes in Cheese, Barbecue and Rancho style -- same product but with something a little different (flavor, color, name).

Lucky Tiger, to commemorate the Year of the Tiger last year 2010, will now go away and to be replace by, what else?  Lucky Rabbit for 2011!

Do you need help in Looking For a Site for your foodcart business?

courtesy of signazon.com
It's so hard to look for a Site or Pwesto (signazon.com)
I am offering assistance in helping you look for a site or "pwesto" for your foodcart business within Metro Manila.

1.  My fee is only P4,000 Non-refundable and payable in full upon engagement during our initial meeting (i.e. before tripping to the site).

2.  Within 7 days, we will advice you of 3 possible sites for your foodcart business.  (Please note because of competitiveness, sites are on a first come-first serve basis).

We advice that you do not be late during the scheduled time of tripping to allow time to visit all 3 sites within the same day.  Transportation costs from the meeting place to the site shall be for the client's account.

I don't have the time to look.  (signazon.com)
3.  After each site visited, my site locator will request you to initial the Trip Ticket.

4.  While at the site, we will introduce you to the property owner (landlord) for you to discuss the terms and conditions of the lease.

5.  Because of our low fee, we unfortunately cannot entertain specific requests such as only sites within a certain city or rent within a certain price range as these conditions would entail a longer search time and higher overhead expenses on our part.

6.  In the event none of the 3 sites meet your preference, we cannot refund any part of our fee as expenses have already been incurred on our part.

7.  The above conditions and terms may change in the future.

Should you be interested, please text "Foodcart Site" and your full name to 0922-8831225.  Hope to see you guys.

The All-time Bestselling PCSO Scratch It Card is still the Go Banana of Pacific Online Systems!

courtesy of pcso pacific online pgmc
There are more than 20 kinds of PCSO Scratch & KasCash Cards to play.
For those not familiar with it, a PCSO Lotto Outlet does not just sell Lotto tickets--- they also sell scratch cards.

Scratch cards are colorful cards that a lotto customer has to scratch to reveal the winning prize.  It is very relaxing to play and cost in general P20 for most games.

Each card has a different game scheme, to wit:

1.  Some cards will win if you can find 3 of the same amount, you win the amount.  Some cards like the go Banana has a multiplier (X2, X3) which can right away double or triple your winnings.

2.  Others like Red Hot 7 require that you find 3 7s in a row (vertical, horizontal or diagonal like Tic Tac Toe) and you win the amount where the 7s are aligned to.

3.  Others like Sunny Money (look for a Sun) while Cash Carnival means you look for a ferris wheel.

The All-time Favorite Scratch It Card -- Go Banana!
  4. Right now and still going strong is Go Banana.  Normally a Game card will be played for a fixed period of time (maybe 2 months or so and it will stop) but demand for Go Banana is so strong that I think it is already in its 6th Series of Launching!!!

Lotto customers enjoy playing the scratch cards to kill time while waiting say for the wife to finish grocering or waiting for somebody.  For the oldies, it is a means to fill in their time now that they mostly leave without their family and are just with the maid.

If SM, Ayala and Robinson's Malls are Franchisor Territory, What Else is Left for Franchisees?

courtesy of ayala malls  I got the chance to meet a senior leasing officer of a major mall and she said that whenever a new mall is planned and they have to do pre-offering to tenants, they usually offer it first to the Franchisor and it is up to the Franchisor if they will set-up a Company-owned outlet or offer it to franchisees.

courtesy of SM Malls  While it is true that the Big 3 (SM, Robinson's and Ayala Malls) are not the only choice spots, they of course represent the Best Sites for a small businessman's foodcart.

courtesy of robinsons mallsWe can expect that high revenue-volume areas will be retained by the Franchisor as Company-owned outlets. Hay!

For First-time & Existing Taxi Operators, Have You Heard of the Pinoy Road Runner Taximeter???

For the past 5 or so years, I have always visited the Alexan Commercial booth at the Manila International Bookfair to look at the latest books in Logistics, Supply chain or blogs and the owner and her daughter have always made it a pleasure to source books, my true vice, from them.

Alexan's Pinoy Road Runner Taximeter with Anti-Tamper Feature
What I did not know was that Alexan is also into the manufacture of Taximeters.  Well, they used to import taximeters (as far back as 2004) but her husband being an inventor and an electronic genius, has invented his own taximeter which seems to offer even more features than imported ones.

Some of the noteworthy features (for more details, visit their website):

1.  HOW MANY RIDERS HAVE HAD THE EXPERIENCE OF RIDING A TAXI WITH A FAST TAXIMETER?

The Alexan taximeter called the Pinoy Road Runner has a security feature that will prevent the taxidriver from using what we call locally as the "batingting" which is an electrical switch that when activated causes the imported taximeter to appear to be going faster than it actually is and of course, make the taximeter register a higher taxi fare.

Whenever the taxidriver attempts to tamper the taximeter with a "batingting", the Pinoy Road Runner taximeter will sense the tamper & freeze the taxi fare at the last registered level before the tampering occurred, no matter how far the taxe will still travel.

The only way the driver can unfreeze the Pinoy Road Runner is to reset it by doing another Flagdown, in which case the rider will not agree to paying another minimum fare!!!

2.  The Pinoy Road Runner taximeter uses locally-available printer paper.  (imported taximeters do not have working printers after a while due to the problem of sourcing for the special printer paper)

3.  The Pinoy Road Runner taximeter has the ability to compute the total fare revenue on a per shift basis when there are 2 shifts involved. (Imported taximeters can only register total revenue per day)

This can help the operator in setting boundary levels per shift, analyze productivity of each driver for greater revenue and many more.

4.  Because the taximeter is digital and the software was developed locally, Alexan can offer more features and have these features downloaded to existing Pinoy Road Runner taximeters.  (Try doing that with imported taximeters---IMPOSSIBLE!!!).

5.  Provides status of battery charge (not available in any imported taximeter)

6.  Lower price than imported taximeters.

Should you be interested. please call Tel 514-2905 or text 0922-8831225.
